Herring Girls is a nod to the rich fishing history of Ardglass and to the women and girls who worked in the herring industry, gutting and sorting the herring as it was landed at Ardglass Harbour.

The herring girls were an important part of the fishing industry, working quickly to process the catch as it came ashore. This painting is a small nod to those women and to the important part they played in the history and character of Ardglass.
