This painting depicts a wrasse, a fish that is vibrant and colourful and can be found just off the shore of Ireland, including around Ardglass. When I was first introduced to this fish, I was shocked at how tropical it is in appearance. It’s hard to believe that something so colourful and exotic looking exists in our waters here in Ireland.

For me, it sums up those summer days in Ireland when everything can feel so warm and full of colour that for a moment, we really could be a tropical island.
